Vinga Update
How to make the client database update into a pleasure. As a Data
Flex developer you will surely recognise the following scenario!
Your application is about to be released in a new version. Now you have to work through
all your customer's data bases with DFFILE. It is a laborious, boring and time wasting
work that you would much rather not have to do. Not only do you have to fully document
changes you have made, but also keep up with all the versions running - remember, not all
your clients even have the same version of the application!
Vinga Update will change your views on updates (revisions). It records all changes made
on your data base and updates, at request, your customer's data bases to your version. The
update process is so simple that you may send a disk containing a control file and an
update program directly to your customers. The customers only have to start the update
program and their whole database structure will be updated fast and automatically.
The risk that the automatic update might fail is very remote.
Vinga Update, e.g., checks that the file descriptions of the customer data base are as
expected before updating.

First, a compressed copy of the file descriptions of the target (about to be updated)
database is created. This file is very small and can easily be sent via modem or on a
disk.
Second, you run a program that compares your version with that of the customer and creates
a control file. Where necessary, you have the opportunity, using menus and list boxes, to
select correct alternatives.
The control file is also very small and can quickly be transmitted to the customer.
Finally, the update. The control file contains all the information necessary for Vinga
Update to undertake the transformation automatically. This step can be handled by the
client, and is just a matter of starting the program.
